Learning Today to Discover Tomorrow

P4 Miss Bell

Welcome back to Primary 4!

We have had an exciting start back after half-term exploring our new topic, Castles! We are busy exploring how people lived long ago, the different roles of people in the castle and many of the castles there are in Northern Ireland. We are looking forward to experimenting with different materials and testing their properties to see which would be best for building, and keeping us warm and dry. In Forest School, we made castles out of leaves, and we also used lots of natural materials to design and make a 3D model of a castle. We have been learning how to write instructions in literacy, so we worked together to write the instructions for other groups to build our castle! In P.E., we danced our way through a dragon hunt, recovered the sword from the stone and are already planning a visit to Robin Hood in Sherwood Forest.

In Numeracy, we have been looking at number patterns and arrays to help us with our times tables. We have already learnt our 2, 5 and 10 times tables and are getting quicker and more confident at recalling them – Times Tables Rockstars is great at helping us learn them in a fun way and we can’t wait until we are learning our 3’s and 4’s!

We enjoyed a lovely visit from local author, Marianne McShane, who visited us as part of the Friends of Columbanus Bangor Annual Festival. She talked to us about the life and work of Columbanus and read one of her own stories to us – what a treat! With Christmas around the corner, we are having lots of fun with festive arts and crafts, the classroom and open areas are filled with excitement, music, paint and glitter!

We are a class who love music, and many of us have started to learn to play musical instruments; piano, cornet, flute, violin . . . the list goes on! The Spring Term brings our Key Stage 1 Extravaganza where, together with Primary 3, we all have the opportunity to be on stage performing and showcasing our many talents – and we can’t wait!

We look forward to seeing you after Christmas for another update on our wonderful year in P4!

Welcome to Primary 4!

We have had a fabulous start to the year. Our first topic is London and we are looking forward to a first half term exploring lots of famous places with the help of a bear named Paddington. We have already been visiting the Ballymagee Art Gallery to explore famous artwork and create our own masterpieces!

We are working hard but having LOTS of fun along the way, especially in Mental Maths where Crackers the parrot and our mental maths monsters help us to play number games. Miss Bell is a Forest School Leader, so we are looking forward to learning outdoors each week. She has already set us a Roald Dahl challenge where we had to find and solve the puzzles hidden around the school grounds – we even got to explore the puddles!

We look forward to making and measuring with Castles and then opening our own restaurant during our Chinese New Year topic! Later in the year we are going to the War Museum in Belfast to help us learn more about World War 2 and will be busy searching for treasure in our Pirate topic. We may even get to act like real pirates, orienteering our way around the school grounds to find some buried treasure! We will finish the year exploring the Rainforest and learning about plants and animals.

Keep an eye on our page as we will be updating it with all our fabulous learning experiences!
