Education for Sustainable Development
Education for Sustainable Development
Education for Sustainable Development at Ballymagee is about enabling children to develop the knowledge, values and skills to participate in decisions about the way we do things individually and collectively, both locally and globally. Amongst other things, this encompasses the development of understanding about healthy lifestyle choices, citizenship, global and cultural awareness and employability.
Our aim as a school is to help our children understand why sustainable development is important and to help nurture good habits that will enable them to become responsible and healthy citizens of the future!
So what are we doing?
As well as providing a range of activities and experiences through class teaching and co-curricular provision, which foster these values and attitudes, here is a sample of some other things we are doing:
- Promoting healthy lifestyle through our Healthy Break requirement
- Keep Safe in the Sun education
- Walk to School Week
- Daily Mile
- Maintaining Eco Garden
- Recycling - paper, batteries, plastic (Eco Bricks initiative), clothing
- Renewable Energy - photovoltaic panels installed
- Green Flag
- Eco Council to represent pupil voice in decision making
